Octav Russu is a distinguished Senior Orthopedic Surgeon renowned for his expertise in knee surgery (including ligament reconstruction and patellar instability) and hip and knee joint replacement, with a specialization in sports medicine. As an Orthopaedics and Traumatology Lecturer at George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Tg. Mureș, he actively pursues research in structured surfaces for biomedical applications, particularly through electrochemical anodization.

Russu holds the position of President of the Romanian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma (SRATS) from 2024 to 2026 and plays a pivotal role in organizing conferences and courses under the auspices of the Romanian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SOROT) and SRATS, including the International Knee Course Tg-Mures with ESSKA patronage. He has authored over 70 scientific papers published in national and international journals and presented more than 90 papers at prestigious scientific meetings worldwide. Additionally, Russu serves as a Journal Reviewer for notable publications such as Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy (KSSTA), Journal of Experimental Orthopedics (JEO), and Acta Medica Marisiensis.

His career is marked by significant fellowship experiences, including the ESSKA Fellowship in 1999 and subsequent fellowships in 2011 and 2015, focusing on knee surgery, arthroscopy, and knee arthroplasty. Russu has been recognized with honors such as the 2011 Bologna Professor Award from the Romanian Student Organizations National Alliance (ANOSR) and memberships in prestigious organizations like the European Knee Associates (EKA). He has also held key roles in ESSKA committees, including the U45 Committee and as Chairman from 2018 to 2020.
